Each year, Samford University hosts thousands of parents and their families for Family Weekend. The Weekend kicked off on Thursday, Sept. 21 and continued through Sunday, Sept. 23. The campus hosted a record-breaking number of guests from across the country for a range of exciting events.

From football, soccer, tennis, volleyball and tailgates to a prayer walk and worship service, scavenger hunts, acrobats, campus tours, games, concerts and more, Family Weekend provided an opportunity for the beloved community to come together in fellowship beneath Samford’s oaks.

This tremendous initiative is led by Samford’s Office of Parent and Family Programs and the Samford Parents Association, in partnership with many departments across campus. The Parents Association is made up of dedicated parents who affirm Samford’s mission and inform, support and connect Samford parents and families.

“We are delighted to welcome the entire family to campus for this special weekend every year,” said Julie Boyd, director of Parent and Family Programs. “It is a time to bring people together, in this place we all love, to celebrate our student’s success and confirm their choice to make Samford their second home.”

Family Weekend also marks the beginning of an important parents’ initiative. This year’s Parents Scholarship 2023 campaign was launched at the Parents Association annual meeting and breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 23. This scholarship, established and funded by Samford parents, is dedicated for students who have experienced unexpected financial hardship that threatens their ability to complete their degree.

Each year at Family Weekend, amidst the celebrations, the scholarship launch provides an opportunity for Samford parents to come together in support of one another, of the students and of the university.
